What is Pasar Malam Sort?
Pasar Malam Sort is a sorting puzzle set in a Malaysian pasar malam, the busy night market. Each level shows a few wooden stalls under striped awnings, and every stall is full of mixed-up snacks: satay, kuih lapis, onde-onde, ais kacang, karipap, teh tarik and many more. Your job is to sell every snack. A snack is sold when three of the same kind stand side by side on one stall.
There is no timer, Undo is free as many times as you like, and a Hint is always there. Kedim the orange cat runs the stall and cheers when you clear a level. Nothing is ever sold for real money, and your stars and snacks are saved on your device.
How to play
- Tap a snack to pick it up. It lifts a little so you can see it is chosen.
- Tap another stall that has an empty space at the front. The snack moves there. You can also drag a snack instead of tapping twice.
- Make three of a kind. When the three front spaces of a stall hold the same snack, they are sold with a happy pop.
- Watch the back rows. The faded snacks behind the front row are waiting their turn. When a stall's front row is empty, the next row moves forward.
- Sell everything to clear the market and win the level.
If you change your mind, tap Undo to take back the last move, or Again to start the level fresh. Tap Hint and the game shows one good move. Hints follow a single plan, so tapping Hint again and again walks you through the level without going back and forth.

The three markets
The game has 60 levels split across three markets, each with its own scene and snacks:
- Pasar Malam (20 levels). The night market, where everyone starts. The first levels have only three kinds of snack and one row per stall, so they are a gentle way to learn. Later levels add more snacks, deeper stalls and, on the last level, the first food covers.
- Ramadan Bazaar (20 levels). Treats for buka puasa, such as kurma, ketupat, lemang, murtabak, cendol and bubur lambuk. It opens once you finish 8 Pasar Malam levels, so you can switch between two markets early on. Food covers join from level 12.
- Lantern Walk (20 levels). Lanterns by the river and the hardest levels in the game. It opens after all 20 Pasar Malam levels, and every level has food covers.
Pick a market on the Markets screen. A finished level can be played again any time to improve its stars.
Food covers
Some snacks hide under a woven food cover, called a tudung saji. Each cover shows a number. Every set of three you sell anywhere on the board brings that number down by one, and when it reaches zero the cover lifts and the snacks underneath can be moved. In the later Lantern Walk levels there can be up to seven covers at once, so plan which sets you sell first.
How stars work
Each level gives one to three stars, based on how many moves you used. Every level has a target number of moves worked out from a best solution. Finish close to it, with only a few spare moves, for three stars. Using quite a few more moves gives two stars, and simply clearing the level always gives at least one. Undo does not cost anything, so if a move was a mistake, undo it before going on. Each market has 60 stars to collect, 180 in all.
The snack book
The first time you sell a new kind of snack, it goes into your snack book with a short line about it, for example that teh tarik is poured from high up to make it frothy. Each market brings its own treats, so keep playing all three to fill the book. Tap Snacks on the title screen to look through the ones you have found.
Hard mode
If you want a challenge, switch on Hard mode in Settings. Every level then has a timer, and bigger levels get more time. Clear a level in Hard mode and a small flame marks it on the map. If the timer runs out, you can try again or tap Play without timer to go back to the calm game straight away. Hard mode is always optional.
Tips for three stars
- Look before you tap. Count how many of each snack you can see, front and back, before your first move.
- Keep one stall with free spaces. An empty space is the most useful thing on the board, so do not fill every gap.
- Clear fronts that hide a pair. If the back row of a stall holds two of the same snack, emptying its front row brings them forward together.
- Finish a set in one go. Moving a third snack onto a stall that already shows two of the same is the best kind of move.
- Use the covers' numbers. Sell sets early on levels with covers, so the hidden snacks join the game before you run out of room.
- Stuck? Tap Hint. It is free and shows a move that leads to a win.
Is Pasar Malam Sort good for children?
Yes. There is no chat, no ads during play and nothing to buy. The first levels are short and simple, there is no timer unless you switch on Hard mode, and Undo and Hint are always free, so young players never get stuck for long. The snack book is a fun way to learn the names of Malaysian foods.
Common questions
Does it work on phones? Yes. Pasar Malam Sort is made for phones first and also works on tablets and computers, upright or sideways. On a computer, click or drag the snacks with the mouse.
Is my progress saved? Yes, on the device you play on. Your stars, finished levels, snack book and settings are kept.
Can every level be solved? Yes. Every level was checked to make sure it can be cleared, and the Hint button always knows a way through.
