Gobble Hole Guide: How to Grow Fast and Win Classic, Solo and Battle
In Gobble Hole you are a hungry hole in the ground. Slide under cones, people and cars to swallow them, grow, and eventually sink whole skyscrapers. Our first round was a lesson in what not to do, so this guide starts there.

What happened in our first round
We started a Classic round in Sunny City and steered around more or less at random. Two minutes later the card read #8: 21 objects swallowed, no holes gobbled, a final size of 1.7 metres, and partway through the round we were swallowed by a bigger hole ("Gobbled! Respawning..."). The winner, a computer hole called Chomper, finished with 70,900 points to our 671.
The lesson was clear: wandering is not enough. The holes that win grow fast early, then go hunting. The rest of this guide is about how to do that.
How it works
Drag anywhere on the screen and your hole moves in that direction, like a joystick that appears under your finger. Anything smaller than the hole tips over the rim and falls in. Each bite makes you a little bigger, and the bar under your score shows how close you are to the next size. Every size lets you swallow bigger things:
- Cones, bins, people and benches
- Lamp posts, trees and cars
- Buses
- Houses and shops
- Towers and skyscrapers, which sink into the ground with a rumble
On a computer you can use W A S D, the arrow keys or drag with the mouse. When your hole goes behind a tall building, an outline keeps it visible.
The three modes
| Mode | Rivals | Time | Goal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | 7 computer holes | 2 minutes | Be the biggest when time runs out |
| Solo | None | 2 minutes | Eat as much of the map as possible: 50% for 1 star, 80% for 2, 100% for 3 |
| Battle | Rival holes, no respawns | Until one is left | Stay inside the shrinking safe zone and be the last hole standing |
Growing fast
- Start on the pavements. People, cones, bins and benches are everywhere and quick to collect. Sweep along a sidewalk rather than across empty road.
- Don't chase things you can't eat yet. If a car just bumps the rim, leave it and come back after the next Size Up.
- Follow streets in long lines. Zig-zagging wastes time; long, smooth sweeps collect more.
- Parks and parking lots are buffets. Trees and rows of parked cars give a big jump once you are big enough.
- Save buildings for last. They are worth a lot but you need to be large. Grow on small stuff first, then go block by block.
Dealing with rival holes
In Classic, a hole that is clearly bigger than another can swallow it. The live leaderboard at the top right shows everyone's size.
- Stay away from bigger holes, especially early on. Being swallowed sends you back with half your size, and that cost us the round.
- Hunt smaller holes once you are ahead. Gobbling a hole gives a big bonus.
- Watch the computer holes' habits. They grow, hunt and run away like real players. If one is heading straight for you, move away.
Battle tips
There is no coming back in Battle. Holes outside the safe zone shrink and vanish, so keep an eye on the edge and move inward early. Grow as much as you can at the start, while the zone is big, and stay clear of the bigger holes until the end.
Solo for 3 stars
Solo has no rivals, so it is all about being thorough. Work through the map in strips, the way you would mow a lawn, so you don't leave pockets behind. When only a few objects are left, arrows point to them.
Maps
| Map | Cost | What is there |
|---|---|---|
| Sunny City | Free | Roads, parks and parking lots |
| Coco Beach | 400 coins | Umbrellas, boats and hotels |
| Hayday Farm | 800 coins | Fields, animal pens, barns and a windmill |
| Orbit Station | 1300 coins | Rovers, domes and a rocket |
Coins and the shop
Every round pays coins (even our 8th place earned 25, and finishing the tutorial gave 50). There are also 3 daily missions and 16 achievements for bonus coins. Spend them on new maps, hole skins (from Bubblegum and Lime Pop at 150 up to Royal Gold at 1,200 and Galaxy at 1,500) and trails (Sparkles at 200 up to Confetti at 1,000). Skins and trails are just for looks, so if you want more to play, buy the maps first.
What changed after testing
The latest updates added much more detail to the world: buildings with balconies, awnings and porches, long shadows, warm and cool lighting, textures on pavements, roads and grass, and a swirl inside the hole when it swallows something. The game description was reworded, a More games link was added to the results screen, and the Share button on the title screen was moved so it never hides your coin count.
FAQ
Can I be eaten in Gobble Hole?
In Classic, yes, by a hole that is clearly bigger than you. You come back after a moment with half your size. In Battle there are no respawns.
How do I unlock the other maps?
Buy them with coins in the map chooser: Coco Beach costs 400, Hayday Farm 800 and Orbit Station 1300.
How do I get 3 stars in Solo?
Swallow 100% of the map within two minutes. Sweep in neat strips and follow the arrows to the last few objects.
Is Gobble Hole suitable for kids?
Yes. Everything is bright and cartoony: people, animals and objects simply tip over the rim and drop out of sight, with nothing scary or gory.
Does it save my coins?
Yes, automatically on your device.
