Fin Frenzy Guide: Eat, Grow and Beat the Five Ocean Bosses
In Fin Frenzy you are a small, hungry shark in a big ocean. Eat smaller fish to grow, keep your hunger bar from emptying, dodge jellyfish and mines, and eventually take on bosses like King Crab and the Giant Squid. Our first dive taught us a lot about steering.

Fin Frenzy is a bright, fast underwater game. The water is full of light rays and little fish, swimmers float at the surface on rubber rings, and the deeper zones get darker until the only light comes from glowing creatures. You are the shark, and you are always hungry.
Our first dive
The first level, Coral Reef, Level 1, has a simple goal: eat 15 fish. A hint says "Drag anywhere to swim", and a joystick appears under your thumb wherever you touch.
We were a bit too ambitious and swam in big sweeps across the screen. In about 40 seconds we had eaten 3 of the 15 fish, picked up 22 coins, scored 176, swam right up to the surface, and came close to into a spiky sea mine. The lesson: small fish come in schools, so slow down and swim through the middle of a school rather than zooming past it. Auto-bite does the eating for you; you just need to be close.
We also learned to watch the three bars in the top corner: health (red), hunger (orange) and size (green). Hunger drops all the time, so if you stop eating, you start losing health.

Controls
| Action | Phone | Computer |
|---|---|---|
| Swim | Drag anywhere (floating joystick) or follow-finger mode | WASD or arrow keys |
| Boost | BOOST button or double-tap | Space or Shift |
| Bite | Automatic (a manual BITE button can be turned on) | X or J |
| Pause | II button | P or Esc |
The game recommends turning your phone sideways, which shows more of the ocean.
Eat, grow, and avoid the red ones
- Swim into fish smaller than you to eat them. Each one fills your hunger and grows your size bar.
- Bigger fish glow red. Stay away until you have grown. Once you are bigger, you can eat the bullies that chased you.
- Jellyfish, mines and harpoons hurt. Steer around them.
- Eating quickly builds a combo. Filling the Frenzy meter at the bottom makes you faster and lets you eat almost anything for a short time.
- Boost uses stamina, which refills on its own. Use it to catch a school or escape a predator.
Power-ups
Look out for Magnet, Bubble Shield, Jet Boost, Laser, Mega Bite, Heal and Gold Rush. Heal is the one to grab when your red bar is low.
How stars work
Every level gives up to 3 stars:
- 1 star for completing the level's goal
- +1 star if you finish with at least half your health
- +1 star if you finish within the target time
So for 3 stars, you need to be quick and careful.
Five zones and their bosses
| Zone | What it is like | Boss |
|---|---|---|
| Coral Reef | Sunny shallows full of snacks | King Crab |
| Shipwreck Bay | Sunken treasure and sea mines | The Iron Tide (a submarine) |
| Arctic Ice | Frosty floes and falling icicles | Frost Narwhal |
| Deep Sea | Dark depths and submarines | Giant Squid |
| The Abyss | Glowing creatures in total darkness | Abyss Angler |
Each zone has five levels, the last one being the boss. In boss levels, eat and grow first, then bite the boss when it is tired or stunned for big damage. Each zone also has an Endless mode that saves your best score.
Sharks
| Shark | Cost | Special |
|---|---|---|
| Reef Shark | Free | Quick and friendly starter |
| Hammerhead | 1,500 | Bigger bite range and coin sense |
| Mako | 4,000 | Fastest; boost recharges 50% faster |
| Tiger Shark | 7,000 | Starts bigger and gets hungry slower |
| Great White | 12,000 | A mighty bite |
| Megalodon | 30,000 | Starts huge and fears almost nothing |
Each shark can also be upgraded. The Tiger Shark is a lovely middle step for players who keep running out of hunger.
Gadgets
Gadgets have 5 upgrade levels each:
- Jetpack: bigger, faster boost with quicker recharge
- Laser Visor: automatically zaps mines, jellies, harpoons and torpedoes
- Coin Magnet: pulls coins and power-ups from further away (first level 300 coins)
- Armor Plates: 8% less damage per level
- Big Belly: hunger drains 9% slower per level
- Frenzy Charm: Frenzy charges faster and lasts longer
If you find the game hard, Big Belly and Armor Plates make the biggest difference early on.
Tips
- Swim through the middle of fish schools, not past them.
- Keep an eye on hunger; never let the orange bar run out.
- Save Boost for escaping red fish.
- Use Frenzy when lots of fish are around.
- Try follow-finger mode in Settings if the joystick feels tricky. There is also a left-handed layout.
What changed after testing
Saves were checked and made safer, and later versions polished the game's look and wording and made the More games link and results screens fit properly.
